MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake shook Dinagat Islands early Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tremor happened around 2:52a.m. some seven kilometers (kms) south-west of Dinagat town, also in the same island province, Phivolcs said.
The other type of an earthquake is volcanic, Phivolcs said.
Initial reports showed that Instrumental Intensity 2 was recorded over City of Surigao, Surigao del Norte; Abuyog, Leyte; and Sogod and Hinundayan, Southern Leyte.
Meanwhile, Intensity I was recorded in City of Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte; City of Borongan, Eastern Samar; Hilongos and Dulag, Leyte; and Palapag, Northern Samar.
While damage to infrastructure was not expected, aftershocks, however, would be possible from the latest Dinagat Islands quake, Phivolcs said.
